Rainforest Publications' Belize Marine Guide includes illustrations for reef fish, marine mammals, sport fish, and sea turtles. The illustrations of reef and sport fish were created by Alina Suárez. The illustrations of marine mammals and sea turtles were created by Uko Gorter.

The barrier reef complex of Belize extends roughly 155 miles in a north-south direction and ranges from 6 to 21 miles in width. The reef is made up of coral polyps which are a critical part of an extensive and complex ecosystem. The coral polyps are very fragile and are damaged when touched by your hand or brushed by your swim fin. They are also susceptiable to pollution and bacterial contamination, other marine organisms and temperature changes.
